Real architectural models help people visualize. Physical architectural models are real depictions of proposed buildings that allow the viewer to walk around and view all the architectural facades, roofs and details all at the same time. Real three-dimensional models play a crucial role that help awaken people's imagination, even today.
The trend lately is to have the model replaced by a computer animation. Often this is not enough. Computer animations are expensive to produce realistic results, require large screens for viewing and require electricity to run constantly on a monitor showing only one view point.
Computer renderings or colored drawings are typically required to show facades and perspectives of the proposal. Typically color drawings are done automatically with the architectural model near by the two methods work hand in hand and best communicate a fuller picture and complete presentation.
But when one method is eliminated typically the model is, that is when the break down of communication occurs. The viewer is forced to look at several large boards of pre--determined view points such as facades, sections, perspectives. Then its up to the viewer to put together all the information together. Do you think the average person can do this? Is this worth the risk not knowing that your viewer does not understood the project 100%?
Drawings are flat. Models are tangible, they convene three dimensions. A model along will show more information then the two methods listed above. Remember the model shows the whole building all at the same time, there are no hidden views. Don't you think it's important to tell the viewer the whole story.
